Is it safe for a 15 year old to take an over-the-counter emergency contraceptive?

I'm very afraid I may need to take an emergency contraceptive but I was wondering if it is physically safe for me to take an over-the-counter EC. Is there a reason young people cannot purchase it, or is it simply to keep it out of the hands of 'children'?
